“911, what’s your emergency?” Three and a half years after the car accident, and neither one of them has been the same since. Vanessa is now a junior in college studying to be pre-med just like her parents. She has a big group of friends and has grown to be a lot more confident than she was when she was first adopted. For the most part, the years have treated her well. At least that’s what she’s made everyone believe, but deep down, she struggles with keeping her demons at bay. These last three years haven’t been as easy as she let on, and the hole she continues to dig herself keeps getting bigger and bigger. Vanessa presents herself as ‘fine’ but she’s been circling the drain ever since she can remember. Mason has been missing ever since the accident, leaving Vanessa behind and cutting all communication between them. What nobody knows is that he disappeared because he needed to get help, so he left to move overseas with his dad. During the years he’s spent training directly under the man who runs the underworld, Mason has done things that he can never undo. But after being powerless for so long, it feels good to finally wield it. And he plans on using it when he returns back to Connecticut. When Mason finally resurfaces in Vanessa’s life, she doesn’t want anything to do with him. But he won’t give up that easily. He can tell that Vanessa isn’t the same as she was when he left her, and she needs help. He knows that him leaving broke her, and now it’s his job to help put her back together. Vanessa is wary of the person Mason is now, noticing the shift in the darkness that he carries with him. He isn’t controlling like he used to be, but he’s dangerous, and she doesn’t know if she can trust him. Despite that, she agrees to let him back into her life. And even though Mason has been truthful and open to her about his present and past, her own past isn’t something she’s ever been willing to talk about. Until it stares her right in the face. It turns out, Mason wasn’t the only one keeping dark secrets. Now, Vanessa is forced to confront the skeletons in her closest and revisit the darkest parts of her past. But will she do it? Or will she buckle under the weight of keeping it all to herself?
