Florin Iaru (born Florin Râpă) is a Romanian writer, poet and essayist. Born in 1954, he has graduated in 1978 from the Philological Faculty within the University of Bucharest. He is married to the writer Cecilia Ștefănescu. From 1970 he has been a member of Nicolae Manolescu's "Monday Literary Circle" (Cenaclul de Luni), which included other notorious students such as Mircea Cărtărescu, Traian T. Coșovei and Ion Stratan. He is considered to be one of the important Romanian writers of the 80's. After publishing several poetry books, he made his prose debut in 2011 with the short story collection "Fraier de București". He is currently writing for Cațavencii.
