On 4 April 1970, Gino De Dominicis’ second solo show entitled Lo Zodiaco (The Zodiac) opened in Rome, at the art gallery L’Attico. The artist conceived the exhibition as a tableau vivant where the twelve astrological signs, embodied by inanimate objects, human characters or real animals (most of them alive) faced the public standing still, in a semicircular formation, for five days. The photographic memory of the show has always been conveyed by a single shot, taken by Claudio Abate and also used as the exhibition’s official poster. But this epic project by one of the most elusive artists of the art scene of the times was also documented by another photographer, who was then at the outset of his career, Fausto Giaccone. Left unpublished for almost fifty years, his collection of photos has become an entirely visual book in the form of a leporello, published by NERO in cooperation with s.t. foto libreria galleria : a sequence of black and white shots which narrate Lo Zodiaco through the coming and going of the visitors and of De Dominicis himself through the space of the gallery.
