Julia Biggs has been traveling for a few years, after losing her mother in a car accident and then her father in a motorcycle accident. The irony of losing her parents in similar ways was not lost on her. Julia begins having nightmares, reminding her of her youth and the demons that had plagued her for so many of her formative years. She had been able to get rid of them for a time. But now they were back. The terror she experiences in her nightmares becomes real when her roommate is attacked in one of her dreams and ends up in a coma in real life.
