Hassan Abd. Muthalib is a self-taught artist, graphics designer, animator, writer and director. He has been actively involved in the local film industry for more than 50 years and he has worked on animation shorts, commercials, documentaries and making Malaysia's first animated feature film. This part-time lecturer has also been conducting film and animation workshops internationally. Hassan was presented with the award of the The Father of Malaysian Animation by the Prime Minister of Malaysia and an Asian Animation Pioneer by Nanyang Technology University (NTU), Singapore. He has contributed to the understanding of visual storytelling in film through his roles as a creative writer and film critic. As a film and animation historian, he is resource person for local and international scholars as well as the media. He has been invited to curate animation programmes in Struttgart, Germany (2012), Kecskemet, Hungary (2013), an at NTU (2016). His writing appear in many books, magazines and academic journals locally and internationally. For his achievements, Hassan was conferred an Honorary Masters in Creative Technology by Universiti Teknologi MARA Malaysia where he was and Artist-in-Residence form 2008 to 2012.
