Hawk Seven introduced Three interesting characters: Admiral Shin Ho Lee, Admiral Alexi Tretiakov and Master Sergeant Elliot Kana. In that volume, all three were seasoned veterans of the Federal Navy, closer to the end of their careers than the beginning. This volume goes back in time to their Navy beginnings. Tretiakov and Lee graduate together from the Academy and go their separate ways, while Kana has a fairly new rating as a power technician. Their paths cross in the Nasser system, and out of that episode all three are changed, and their futures are changed. The book then jumps forward to the point in time where Hawk Seven takes up the story. This time however, we see the Bug war through the eyes of these three men. Finally, with the war concluded, Admiral Lee's career comes to an abrupt end and he becomes a civilian; Admiral Tretiakov assumes greater responsibility for the X'Leem and their hoped-for return to their own planet,and now Warrant Officer Kana continues to shepherd the lives and careers of Robert and Elian, the two pilots from Hawk Seven. A fifth volume is in the works, and will take us from the end of the Bug War up to the funeral of Admiral Shin Ho Lee.
