Born and raised in Delhi, Heena Singhal has a degree from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. She worked as an Internal Auditor before she decided to devote all her time to literature and creating free form of art. Her paintings predominantly depict vulnerabilities embodied in her own poetry. She took five years to write her first novel—Songs of the Reed—which is inspired by one of Rumi’s poems of a similar name. For her work, she draws inspirations from cultures and traditions from around the world and poetry. Her writings largely envelopes the nuances of family ties and heritage, roles of women in society, human rights, disability inclusion and mental health issues. She believes art and literature—best introduced in the childhood—hold the power to change the world to a more diverse, inclusive, tolerant and empathetic one where everyone has a voice and is heard. Singhal runs many book clubs for young readers and also writes and illustrates children’s books.
