Heinrich Steinfest was born in Albury, Australia in 1961, but grew up in Vienna, Austria, where he lived and worked as a freelance artist until the end of the 90's. He started out as a writer of science fiction stories before he published his first crime novel Das Ein-Mann-Komplott (The One Man Conspiracy) in 1996. He is currently living in Stuttgart, Germany, and received the German Crime Fiction Award several times as well as the Heimito von Doderer Prize in 2010. His book "Ein dickes Fell" (Thick-skinned) was longlisted for the German Book Award.
