The daughter of a celebrated knight, the Lady Donella cannot help but intervene when she spies a poor but talented apprentice being thrown out by his master. She sets the downtrodden Highlander up under the tutelage of her father and watches with pride and satisfaction as the handsome rider, Rory, becomes skilled in both the saddle and his ability to woo her heart. It's a scandalous risk, a noblewoman and a lowly Highlander, but Donella knows that if Rory can prove himself in the upcoming tourney, winning honour and glory for their clan, they will be free to be together. But many other competitors have their eye on the beautiful Lady and will stop at nothing to see her champion out of the picture, even at the cost of his life.
