Sheldon Siegel's critically acclaimed novels have sold millions of copies worldwide. San Francisco criminal defense attorneys Mike Daley and Rosie Fernandez have been called two of the most beloved characters in contemporary crime fiction. HIGHER LAW 4 continues with novels 11-13 in the series: THE DREAMER, FINAL OUT, and LAST CALL. THE DREAMER (4.5/5 stars, 2800 reviews with 1500+ five-star reviews!) The chef’s knife was in the wrong place . . .wedged in the gut of celebrity chef Carlos Cruz. San Francisco’s hottest chef rose from modest beginnings to getting a James Beard Award for his upscale Mission District eatery, El Conquistador. In addition to creating cutting-edge cuisine, the mercurial Cruz has been accused of sexual harassment multiple times. When Mercedes “Mercy” Tejada finds her boss dying in the alley behind his trendy bistro, she knows she’s in trouble. The waitress job wasn’t ideal, but the tips paid the bills. Smart, ambitious, and tenacious, Mercy was granted Dreamer status while studying to become a nurse. Mike and Rosie are thrust into this politically charged case where they must battle the District Attorney, the immigration authorities, the political establishment, old family secrets, and each other in a desperate search for the truth. FINAL OUT (4.4/5 stars; 3667 reviews, 2000+ 5* reviews) A ballpark. A bay. A body. Robbie Blum was San Francisco’s most prominent sports agent until his body was found floating in the bay after a Giants game, his skull crushed, a Louisville Slugger nearby. Blum’s personal life was a disaster. Two failed marriages. Allegations of spousal abuse. Alcohol. Drugs. Gambling. Jaylen Jenkins is a native of Oakland (“before it was woke,” he says). He ekes out a living and pays for his mother’s drug rehab by working at fast-food jobs, driving for Uber, and selling Giants T-shirts outside the ballpark. Jaylen also ran errands for Blum, including delivering money to his drug supplier. Jaylen appears on the ballpark security video with a bat in hand and is quickly arrested. As Mike and Rosie try to prove Jaylen’s innocence, they race from the glitzy world of professional sports to low-rent strip clubs and homeless encampments in a desperate search for an elusive truth. LAST CALL (4.5/5 stars; 3600 reviews, 2300+ 5* reviews) Mike wasn’t expecting the early-morning call from his 86-year-old uncle, John Dunleavy. Big John arrived at his namesake bar to find the body of a San Francisco police officer in the alley, a bloody knife at his side. All signs point to Big John’s grandson Joey as the killer. Can Mike & Rosie find justice for Joey before the bars close? What Amazon readers are saying ★★★★★ "THE DREAMER will keep you on the edge of your seat from the first page until the very end. If you are into quality legal thrillers, that allow the plot to develop, keeping you guessing throughout, then you will totally enjoy reading this book!" ★★★★★ FINAL OUT: "The courtroom scenes sizzle with suspense, and as always, Mike Daley exhibits sly wit and charismatic charm, useful tools in every trial lawyer’s briefcase. Rosie Fernandez is brainy and savvy and strong. They make a helluva team. As for the author, without breaking a sweat, Siegel knocks the ball out of the park and into the Bay." ★★★★★ LAST CALL: "Here's what you can count on in Siegel's thrillers. Snappy dialog, a solid plot, a list of unusual subjects, and his acid sharp grasp of the San Francisco's zeitgeist. In LAST CALL, he does not shy away from the toll homelessness is taking on The City and its denizens." ★★★★★ "Highly recommended for those who love a legal thriller packaged with a consistent cast of characters who get better with each episode. More, please." ★★★★★ "One of my favourite parts of this series is reading what Mike thinks—I love his sense of humour! I really had to laugh out loud."
