Ab Urbe condita (literalmente, «Desde la fundación de la Ciudad») es una obra monumental escrita por Tito Livio que narra la historia de Roma desde su fundación, fechada en el 753 a. C. por Marco Terencio Varrón y algunos investigadores modernos. El libro fue escrito por Tito Livio (59 a. C.–17) y es frecuentemente referido como Historia de Roma o Historia de Roma desde su Fundación. Los primeros cinco libros fueron publicados entre los años 27 a. C. y 25 a. C. Se basó en Quinto Claudio Cuadrigario, Valerio Antias, Antípatro, Polibio, Catón el Viejo y Posidonio. Por lo general se adhiere a una de las fuentes, que luego completa con las otras, lo que a veces hace que se encuentren duplicados, discrepancias cronológicas e incluso inexactitudes. En esta Historia de Roma también encontramos la primera ucronía conocida: Tito Livio imaginando el mundo si Alejandro Magno hubiera iniciado sus conquistas hacia el oeste y no hacia el este de Grecia.

Titus Livius (Patavinus) (64 or 59 BC – AD 17)—known as Livy in English, and Tite-Live in French—was a Roman historian who wrote a monumental history of Rome and the Roman people – Ab Urbe Condita Libri (Books from the Foundation of the City) – covering the period from the earliest legends of Rome before the traditional foundation in 753 BC through the reign of Augustus in Livy's own time. He was on familiar terms with the Julio-Claudian dynasty, advising Augustus' grandnephew, the future emperor Claudius, as a young man not long before 14 AD in a letter to take up the writing of history. Livy and Augustus' wife, Livia, were from the same clan in different locations, although not related by blood.
