Brattstrom was a Swedish young adult fiction author. She wrote over 40 novels in the seven decades between 1939 and 2009. She was the daughter of writing parents. Her mother, Lisa Högelin, wrote young adult girls books, similar to Inger Brattstrom's work. Her father, Gösta Högelin, wrote poetry and books about animals. Brattstrom graduated school in 1940. She studied psychology at Stockholm University College 1952-1953. She wrote her first novel at only 16 years of age under the birth name Inger Högelin.
