Dr. Arielle Evanson wants nothing to do with Dr. Reid after the way he broke her heart. Why can't he leave her alone? After agreeing to hear him out just to get him off her case, they both find out nothing about what happened in the past had been real. They have to make a decision about what could be real now, except that they have no idea what they're up against when the forces threatening them seek to stop Joshua from finding the way back inside Ari's heart. Can he make it? Excerpt from "Inside Your Heart": “Then it’s settled…” he said, running one gentle yet possessive hand along the side of her body. “What’s settled?” Her eyebrows furrowed inquisitively and she sat up again. “We’re getting married.” “Married?” she gasped. “Just like that?” He watched a range of emotions cross her face at once as she shook her head in dismissal. He was ready for the protest - had thought about it in the waking hours of the night. Had known before making love that he wanted her in his life for the long haul, but figured she would better accept it after the incredible claiming. “This is about not wasting another minute. We could’ve lost each other forever.” He leaned up on one elbow, face serious. “And I told you last night I’m yours, Ari. I don’t need some other woman later on in my life. It’s you I love. I don’t have to find that out now. I know it. I knew it for the past two years. I love you.” “But…” She had that wide-eyed look again. The look of the deer in the headlights. Something was coming fast and she didn’t know how to handle it. He scooted closer and rested a hand on her bare shoulder. She doesn’t understand. “Look at me,” he said softly. And she did. “How do we get the two years back, Ari?” “We can’t,” she admitted quietly. “Do you love me?” He held his breath. “I love you so much. All this time.” It was a whisper she spoke. He took her hand and brought it to his lips, brushing them against the knuckles softly. “Sometimes life is so short, Ari. We always think about next year, next five years, whatever. But the truth is, we see it every day in our careers…no one has the next minute that they can swear is theirs. I heard from E.R. last week that a guy dropped dead on the street with flowers in his hand while going to propose to his lady.” Ari gasped. And he continued, knowing she had been impacted as he had hoped. “Exactly, so you see what I’m saying. No one really has the next minute. We just hope we do and we each get to do the best we can with the time we think we have. We can’t get our two years back, they’re in fact, now, just a void in our timeline; but we have each other now…love each other. If we weren’t meant to be together, neither of us would be here right now.” It was a plea. “I know.” She toyed with the pink sheet. “Look, if you want to live together, we can do that. If you want a visiting romance, we can continue to do that. I think our highest and best would be marriage but the one thing I’m not willing to do is to be apart from you. Whichever way you’ll have me, I’m taking you. But my first choice is to have you as my wife. To be your husband. Let me take care of you, Ari.
