El mundo como supermercado

1998

Interwencje 2

2009

Świat oczami Houellebecqa. Oryginalny i niepokorny komentarz do naszej współczesności. Czy mamy bać się islamu? Czy warto wielbić współczesny feminizm? Co zostało z naszej seksualności? Jak nowoczesna architektura wpływa na nasze życie? Co zrobiły z nami komputery, a co – logika konsumpcjonizmu? Jakie dzieła warto czytać i oglądać? W końcu, czy Michel Houellebecq chciałby siebie sklonować? Interwencje 2 to zbiór tekstów pisarza publikowanych od roku 1992. Na ten zapis wieloletnich przemyśleń składają się artykuły, felietony, wywiady, listy, recenzje książek i filmów, libretto do instalacji artystycznej i inne dzieła nietuzinkowego Houellebecqa. Prowokujące, prześmiewcze, ale też te bardziej rzeczowe, cierpliwie analizujące. Filozoficzne. Zawsze błyskotliwe, często kontrowersyjne, inspirujące do przemyśleń.

Interventions 2020

2020

The death of God in the West was the prelude to a formidable metaphysical soap opera which, according to Michel Houellebecq, continues to this day. Christianity's masterstroke was to combine a fierce belief in the individual with the promise of eternal participation in Absolute Being. When that dream failed, various attempts were made to offer the individual a minimum of being. The latest of these attempts is advertising, which aims to arouse desire and transform the subject into an obedient phantom of becoming. But like all previous attempts, this skin-deep, superficial participation in the world fails and unhappiness and depression continue to spread. However, we can all produce a cold revolution in ourselves by stepping outside the flow of information and advertising. We just need to take some time out, unplug the television, turn off our iPhones, stop buying stuff, stop wanting to buy stuff, temporarily detach ourselves and adopt an aesthetic position in relation to the world. We literally just need to stay still for a few seconds. In this collection of texts and interviews that stretch over three decades, from 1992 to 2020, Michel Houellebecq explains and elaborates his point of view, discusses his novels and addresses a wide range of topics from politics, religion and literature to suicide, euthanasia and paedophilia. An indispensable book for anyone interested in the work of one of the most widely read and controversial novelists of our time.

Michel Houellebecq (born Michel Thomas), born 26 February 1958 (birth certificate) or 1956 on the French island of Réunion, is a controversial and award-winning French novelist. To admirers he is a writer in the tradition of literary provocation that reaches back to the Marquis de Sade and Baudelaire; to detractors he is a peddler, who writes vulgar sleazy literature to shock. His works though, particularly Atomised, have received high praise from the French literary intelligentsia, with generally positive international critical response, Having written poetry and a biography of the horror writer H. P. Lovecraft, he brought out his first novel Extension du domaine de la lutte in 1994. Les particules élémentaires followed in 1998 and Plateforme, in 2001. After a disastrous publicity tour for this book, which led to his being taken to court for inciting racial hatred, he went to Ireland to write. He currently resides in France, where he has been described as "France’s biggest literary export and, some say, greatest living writer". In 2010 he published La Carte et le Territoire (published the same year in English as The Map and the Territory) which won the prestigious Prix Goncourt; and, in 2015, Submission.
