Izdinish—The Search. High school graduates from “Ili Normal College” (Ili Sifan) come to Ürümqi to achieve their dreams of teaching. Some are assigned to Kashgar or Hotan in the south - places they had been eager to see - while others remain in Ürümqi. Ela Nurahunov, the brightest student among them, is chosen by the Communist Party leadership to be trained as a future college teacher. This book portrays the ups and downs in the lives of these students during the Cultural Revolution and the sociopolitical movements which paralyzed the economy, destroyed a significant amount of Uyghur literature, and caused tremendous chaos in Xinjiang. It follows Ela as he is ruthlessly persecuted and suppressed by different leaderships during the Great Leap Forward, causing his works on Uyghur history literature to be burned to ashes. This book tells the story of how a young generation pursued their dreams in a tough environment, searching for a way out with nobody to guide them and no path in front of them.
