J.A. Wright was raised in the Pacific Northwest of the USA and moved to New Zealand in 1990. Eat and Get Gas is a coming-of-age novel set in 1971 in the Pacific Northwest. It was published on 6 June 2023. Her first novel, 'How to Grow an Addict,' while not a memoir, in many ways, reflects her chaotic childhood, her journey into addiction, and her struggle to crawl out. The novel is the recipient of several awards, including the winner in the Addiction & Recovery category of the 2016 International Book Awards, the 2016 NIEA Award Winner in Addiction & Recovery, and the 2016 Independent Publisher Book Awards (IPPY) – Bronze Medal Winner for Literary Fiction.
