Jane McIlvaine McClary was born in Pittsburgh and wrote for a middle school or YA audience. She wrote stories about girls who loved horses (and occasionally a boy). She worked as a journalist, magazine writer and even had her own newspaper, as well as pursuing a career as a successful author. She was also a keen rider, especially in the hunt field, and hunting plays a large role in many of her pony novels.
