I was born Janet Adele Jabour in Prince Rupert, B.C. I grew up in Vancouver, where I attended the University of British Columbia. I met my husband, John Warner, of London, England, when I was in my graduating year. After we married in 1955 and moved to Edmonton, I began graduate studies at the University of Alberta. Motherhood and a move to Toronto intervened, and a few years later I resumed graduate work at the University of Toronto, where I studied Blake with Northrop Frye. The children were in kindergarten then, and I was lucky to have a co-operative husband and a wonderful child-minder, Mrs.Esme Elwell, who helped care for the children as they grew up. Their real grandmothers lived many miles away, and Auntie Esme, who lived to see them grow up, is still dear to our memories. During my career, I wrote academic articles but I could never find the time for fiction, though I made notes in 1975 about a novel I wanted to write on Blake’s wife. My first book, Blake and the Language of Art (McGill-Queen’s University Press) was published in 1984, the culmination of several years research which had taken me to the United States and Britain on many occasions. We took early retirement and moved back to British Columbia in 1990 to build a house and garden on five acres in the Fraser Valley near Vancouver. Our children and grandchildren live near enough for frequent visits. After a few years trying every craft class I came across, I thought it was now or never to write that novel. It took me two years to complete the first draft of Other Sorrows, Other Joys, and three more years of revision! -Source: http://www.janetwarner.com/
