The Powerful, Possessive Widower... Jared North couldn't believe Laurie Crawford was going into the storm-lashed forest to find his missing niece—how could this petite woman be a tracker for the police, when she looked as if a strong grind could blow her away? When he finally understood he couldn't stop her from going, he insisted on joining the search... to Laurie's dismay. Shed had enough of domineering, protective men to last her a lifetime—so why did she find herself aflame with need when Jared drew her to him in a dark cave and savored her beguiling blend of silk and steel? Entranced by this prickly angel who made him admit she was capable and strong, then pushed him away with regret, Jared responded to the conflicting emotions in her eyes with embraces that tormented her soul. Shed paid a high price for independence in a fight whose memories still burned deep inside. Could she make him understand that her spirit needed to be free, just as much as her heart wanted to be his?
