Jess Renae Sherer, a Detroit native, grew up in the South, where her passion for hiking, gardening, and the rich history of southern Appalachia began. She earned her bachelor's degree in sociology and cultural diversity from Kennesaw State University, as well as her master's in creative writing. She resides in Atlanta, Georgia, with her husband, three children, two cats, one dog, and four chickens.
