Born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York, John Altamura draws from a rich tapestry of Italian and Irish ancestry to craft deeply personal and evocative stories. Growing up in a challenging family environment, he overcame adversity, including the emotional struggles of navigating a household marked by his sister's battle with mental health. Despite these obstacles, John graduated from St. Peter's Boys High School in 1995 and pursued higher education with steadfast determination. John began his academic journey at Morrisville State College, earning an associate degree in Journalism before continuing his studies at Oswego State University. While Oswego wasn't a perfect fit, John ultimately found his stride at Utica College of Syracuse University, where he graduated in 2000 with a degree in English. In 2020, John returned to Utica University to earn a Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, further broadening his skill set and professional expertise. His post-college years were marked by exploration and discovery, living in diverse regions such as New Jersey, Washington D.C., Upstate New York, Denver, and Chicago. These experiences inspired his seminal work, Seven Years in Chicago: A Journey of Growth. This semi-autobiographical series follows Jack Almanti, a protagonist grappling with the complexities of PTSD after losing his girlfriend in the 9/11 attacks. The story unfolds as Jack embarks on a seven-year journey of healing in Chicago, blending raw emotion with universal themes of resilience and self-discovery. John’s professional writing career spans work as a reporter for The Evening Sun and The Oneida Daily Dispatch, two respected newspapers in Upstate New York. He also contributed to national and trade publications, including Bleacher Report and USAE News. His passion for storytelling and journalism is matched by his athletic accomplishments—John played collegiate lacrosse and completed four marathons, including the Chicago Marathon three times and the New York City Marathon once.
