Josheel is from England and lives in London. "How To Lose Weight At Work" is his first self-published book. This is how the book came about: I lived quite an active lifestyle and therefore weight wasn't an issue. For me, the problems started when I left university and started working. I had a 10-6 desk job which didn't require any type of movement except for travelling to and from work. During the next 6 months I realised that I was gradually putting on weight. I was hardly exercising and was eating unhealthy food. As a result this made me tired and I restored to doing even less in the evenings and weekends. All I wanted to do was to relax and chill out. Soon after, I started to have very bad acid reflux (heartburn and indigestion). I also had regular heart palpitations and didn't have a good digestive system. It came to a point where I wasn't happy and had to do something about my lifestyle. I started by consulting my doctor, who despite not finding a firm diagnosis, put me on medication to fight the symptoms. I get the feeling the doctor was hoping that whatever it was would heal itself. I was taking 4 tablets daily and this eventually reduced the symptoms that I had. It then became a part of my daily routine, which was becoming increasingly busy and stressful. This lead to more heart palpitations and regular visits to A&E. I was referred to a specialist and within the space of a year was regularly in and out of hospital. The advice from the specialist: 30 minutes of exercise a day! I was frustrated with the situation and vowed to myself that I didn't want to be on medication for the rest of my life. Like most people, I joined the gym (with Francois in tow, on his similar journey) to get myself back into shape. It wasn't long before I realised that I only had time to go to the gym on the weekends. I was barely doing an hour of exercise on Saturday and Sunday combined. Even that was half heartedly as I got tired very quickly. Self-help guides and weight loss programmes make it seem easy; they speak of motivation and determination but never explain how hard it is to do practically. Francois and I started to research about how we could lose weight and become healthier by not going to the gym. In many places we found useful tips that we could integrate into our daily routines and this book is a compilation of those. We continue to research on the topic and try and test each tip in our own busy lifestyles, during and after work. Over time I have started to feel a difference. Just within 6 months I could notice that I was being more active, was losing weight and definitely had a better quality of life. I hope you experience the same after following the suggestions in this book. And remember, the best way to have a healthy life is to make these actions a habit rather than a chore.
