J. R. Carpenter is a poet, fiction writer, and pioneering author of digital literature. Her debut poetry collection, An Ocean of Static (Penned in the Margins 2018) was Highly Commended by the Forward Prize. She is a two-time winner of the CBC Quebec Short Story Competition. She won the Expozine Alternative Press Award for Best English Book for her first novel, Words the Dog Knows, and the New Media Writing Prize for her hybrid print-digital work The Gathering Cloud (Uniformbooks 2017), which features a foreword by media theorist Jussi Parikka and a afterword by poet Lisa Robertson.
