K. A. Black was born in California, but raised in Denver, CO. She grew up on 80s hair metal, movies, and as many sci-fi and fantasy books as she could devour, leading to writing her first book in the sixth grade that will never see the light of day. Although her reading has broadened to all genres, sci-fi and fantasy still hold her writing heart. A graduate of Colorado School of Mines’ mechanical engineering program, Black has worked in many flavors of engineering all over the country and pulls from them to create rich, diverse worlds. Her love of loud and fast music persists but has been joined by interests in science, space, history, and nature.
