I grew up in the '50s and '60s in the Wollongong area, on the South coast of New South Wales. There, I started my career, teaching English and French in high schools. With travel in mind, I also trained as a teacher of English as a Foreign Language and I enjoyed working in France and Papua New Guinea, before settling into family life in Cairns, Far North Queensland. Here, I raised three daughters and worked, until my retirement in March 2013, on a Government-sponsored Settlement Program, teaching English to newly-arrived Adult Migrants. My retirement celebration was the Camino de Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage, and I could not have chosen anything more perfect for me. I wrote a blog, not just to keep my family updated on my journey, but so that I could trap some of the magic and keep it forever, should my memory ever fail me. That achieved, I was content. Then came a chance conversation with a stranger who encouraged me to publish an ebook, and who knew what the process involved. Of course, all the reasons why not to publish came immediately to mind, but her words echoed, long after she'd gone, and I decided to take the steps she'd suggested. And so, with her little prompt, and my own my clumsy efforts at navigating the arcane world of IT, I published my very first e-book, "60 and Solo on the Camino de Santiago de Compostela". The impact of this has been to make me believe that all things are possible in retirement and, with an open mind and open heart, I so look forward to all the adventures ahead.
