As an artist, technologist, and follower of his own drum beat, this book's author, Keno Vigil, has crammed a lifetime of fun and work experience into four decades, and he's just getting started. He started out behind the bar at a restaurant and now leads a thriving business unit for Medscape (a subsidiary of WebMD), which is the largest online physician ecosystem globally. His group creates the leading physician simulation software that is targeted at educating physicians around the globe on the latest medical knowledge and therapies. During the course of his career, Keno has worked for restaurants, a print shop, several bootstrapped tech startups as well as a few multinational publicly traded firms. Keno spends his weekdays developing the patient simulation technology that replicates physicians' real-world experiences in clinical decision-making. He thrives on solving business problems, developing new products and even tinkering around in the professional video studio that he helped build in North Carolina's Research Triangle Park. In just two decades, has experienced six acquisitions (three small and three big), which doesn't make him a global M&A aficionado, but the scar tissue that he has developed from those have sprouted countless aha moments. On a personal level, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling to unique destinations to experience the food and culture, mountain biking, tackling weekend warrior home projects and dabbling with various therapeutic art projects (woodworking, painting and most recently sculpture). He is always eager to experience a new museum or stumble across modern architecture on a walk. The works of painters, Franz Kline and the Belgium wonder, René Magritte are but a few of his faves. From his father being an artist to his grandfather being was a master woodworking craftsman, he has always had this innate desire to work with his hands and create. Keno believes that curiosity, laughter and the relentless persistence to find joy in whatever you are working on is critically important, both personally and professionally. He is not only a fan of stand-up comedians, such as George Carlin, Richard Pryor, and Jerry Seinfeld but also admires the dry Midwestern delivery of David Letterman. Finally, he aspires to make a stand-up comedy stint his new side hustle, playing to a packed house on three different continents. Keep an eye out!
