Born in Ohio, I grew up in Arizona. In graduate school, and during my tenure as a research scientist, I cultivated an ability to write and edit and I found that I actually enjoyed it more than anything else. I acquired a PhD and worked as a research scientist for a number of years, but my interest in writing grew and I left science to take a job as editor-in-chief with a magazine publisher. There I learned the view of an editor, how to write to deadline, and how to pull ideas from the ether on cue. These were valuable lessons but eventually I moved, with my Quebecois wife, to Quebec City. I’ve written hundreds of articles for various magazines and I’ve had monthly columns in several magazines. I have published some fiction, but nothing worthy of note until Her Book of Shadows, my first published novel.
