Laurie Cockerell is a former elementary teacher and mother of four. She has worked extensively with children both professionally and as a volunteer, and felt that our country's next generation would benefit from a tool to help explain the principles of the founding fathers in a simple and understandable fashion. She and her illustrator brother, Travis Dougherty, worked together to create "Founders' Fables: Ten Tales for Future Patriots." She and Travis collaborated again on the award-winning Sam Houston children's biography, "Magnificent Sam: The Amazing Adventures of Sam Houston." Her third book, "The Miracle," teaches children about the sanctity of life before birth, and was photographed by Deanna Ford. Laurie resides in Texas with her husband and youngest children.
