British children's author Alice Lunt was born on a farm near Hale, Lancashire (present day Merseyside) in 1919. Her mother died when she was very young, and her father remarried. Lunt joined the Land Army during WWII, and also worked on her father's farm. She was a member of the Liverpool Writers’ Club, where she became lifelong friends with Mabel Esther Allan. Taking advantage of a post-war program to train teachers in a single year, Lunt fulfilled her dream of becoming an educator, teaching English for a number of years thereafter at Albright County Secondary School in Oldbury, Worcestershire. She died of cancer, in 1973.
