I didn’t know taking a walk with my mom would change everything. If I had, I might have chosen to stay home curled under the blankets watching tv. Instead, I’m headed to a new school with a bunch of elementals who I don’t know. I have to leave my whole life behind. On top of that, some of them don’t like me. They’ve never met me, but because my magic emerged so late, they think I may be more powerful than them or something. I’m still not really sure. I know they are called the Pulhu, and they want to use me. After the way they treated my dad, that’s not going to happen. Maybe they will leave me alone once I’m settled in at the school. My new friends don’t think that’s likely. They told me the Pulhu will never stop coming after me, or my family.
