Dr. Tony O'Connor, chief of staff at St. Joseph's Hospital, has a very short fuse these days. Family issues are making him crazy, and rushing from a nasty scene with his mother to a meeting of the board, he slips in the hospital lobby and injures his ankle. A series of unfortunate events go from bad to horrible, and he ends up in intensive care, threatening to fire half the staff. Kate Lewis, the hospital's patient rep, is an expert at resolving anger issues, but Tony—and his mother—are a challenge. Kate learns that his father, whom he hasn't seen in thirty two years, is coming to visit with the woman he loves. Family members are taking sides. Soon Kate and Tony must also figure out what to do about the feelings they have for each other—and the realization that neither of them has learned to put their own needs first. But two little girls, Tony's daughter and Kate's step-daughter, are more than eager to help them with that lesson by complicating the whole mess even more. Can love come to the rescue?
