The Moon and Beyond
2012
Ian Stevens, director of the Deep Space Research Institute, isn’t interested in conducting research just for the sake of research. While the rest of the world—including the U.S. government—thinks that’s the DSRI’s sole mission, Stevens is actually interested in more—he wants manned space travel and the colonization of the moon. With NASA defunct, few scientific probes are being launched, and no one even talks about human spaceflight anymore. Stevens is out to change that. A billionaire in his own right, Stevens has assembled a crew of the best scientists and engineers he can find, and the DSRI is secretly building and testing gravity-powered spacecraft. There’s just one problem—the project would be widely condemned worldwide, especially since there’s no government supervision. Everything they do has to be kept out of sight and away from the prying eyes of the NSA, Homeland Security, the IRS, OSHA, and a half-dozen other government agencies. They’ve got the world's smartest computer on their side, but will it be enough? As the government gets ever closer to figuring out what the DSRI is doing, Stevens’ plan to establish a permanent settlement on the Moon nears fruition. The race is on—will the government find out and shut down the project, or will Stevens be able to implement…the Lunar Free State?

Someday the Stars
2013
Someday…is now! It’s been ten years since the Lunar Free State established itself as an independent nation on Earth’s Moon. Since then, other Earth nations have pushed into space, competing with the LFS for the untapped resources of the Solar System, but—thanks to the advantages provided by its gravity-driven spacecraft—the LFS has continued to grow and prosper, and relations with the Earth nations remain…strained, at best. When the research ship LFS Stephen Hawking encounters an alien probe near Saturn, though, the craft leads Hawking on a merry chase before vanishing into…well, for want of a better term, hyperspace. Now the Lunar Free State must face two undeniable facts: the humans of Earth are not the only intelligent life in the universe and travel to other star systems is possible. The LFS has to figure out how to get to hyperspace, too, and the time they have to do so is limited. Someone else out there now knows humanity exists, and the countdown clock is ticking until whoever sent the alien craft decides to come calling.

Valkyrie's Daughter
2014
The Otuka are hunting a most dangerous game! The alien Akara have a secret. They’ve discovered the location of a planet that is home to a primitive human civilization, another ancient “seeding” of the legendary Progenitors. But this planet lies in the territory of the Otuka, spacefaring alien predators who consider human flesh to be a delicacy and the planet to be their private hunting preserve. Unwilling to confront the Otuka, the Akara have passed the problem on to their human allies, the Lunar Free State. Now, the LFS needs to decide what to do about it. Are the “Moonies” willing to take responsibility for an entire planet’s population? One thing seems certain: a favorite food of the Otuka is about to get much more expensive, as the LFS Marines stand ready to teach the Otuka hunters a hard lesson in the perils of hunting the humans in this part of the galaxy. But no one knows the technology state of the Okuta. Will the Marines be the hunters, or find themselves being hunted in turn?

In the Service of Luna
2018
On-the-job training can be hazardous to your health… Lorna Greenwood hopes the Lunar Free State’s Fleet Academy will prepare her to follow in her grandmother’s legendary footsteps. Her roommate Nova Sakura has already spent time in the LFS Marines and wants to move up to the officer ranks. First, though, they have to survive four years of training. Military service gets real for Lorna when the assault carrier Omaha Beach comes under fire during her first year training cruise. Nova’s first year cruise aboard the light cruiser Hydra seems pretty routine, until she’s called upon to take charge of a squad of Marines boarding a ship full of murderous pirates. And nothing prepares them for the challenges they face after graduation, when they’re both assigned to the same ship and find themselves facing an alien enemy in a distant star system, in what could be the start of another interstellar war. Two young women put their lives on the line in the service of Luna…even if that means leaving family, friends, and their hearts behind.

The Next Crusade
2021
Another Crusade for the Lunar Free State! After years of planning, the Lunar Free State is going to war, on a crusade to liberate the people of Tatanna from the evil Bugs. For Lorna Greenwood, this will be a trial by fire—her first mission with her own command, the Predator-class destroyer LFS Lynx. She’s looking to get some payback for her last trip there eight years ago, which didn’t end well. For Nova Sakura, it will be a time for action with the Marines down on the planet, a time to take care of unfinished business and make good on the promises she was forced to leave the locals with on her first trip to Tatanna. But the Bugs aren’t the only enemy the Lunar Free State has to face. While they’re fighting to liberate a planet fifty light years away, someone else is planning to hit them a lot closer to home.

Season of the Wolf
2022
Outnumbered and Outgunned… Just Like Old Times! Lorna Greenwood is back, and she’s been given a new command. Well, maybe “new” isn’t the right word. LFS Werewolf is one of the oldest ships in the Lunar Fleet. She’s been rebuilt many times during her 70 years in service, even though she’s not as fast or as heavily armed as Fleet’s more modern light cruisers. Nonetheless, Lorna is proud of her and is determined to whip her green crew into shape for the mission ahead. Besides, the Bug War is over, and nobody expects Werewolf will be going into battle anytime soon. Fate, however, has an annoying habit of ignoring expectations…

The Gathering Storm
2022
A Storm is Coming…
Relations between the Lunar Free State and the nations of Earth continue to deteriorate, with Earth’s power brokers seeking ways to test the readiness of Luna’s fleet, bringing the nations to the brink of open war. When the Akara reveal the location of a planet with a primitive human population, the Lunar Free State rushes to check it out, but thanks to a security leak, the Confederation of Nations also learns of the discovery, setting up a military confrontation. Meanwhile, another Confederation of Nations operation threatens the Lunar Free State’s relationship with the ruling monarch on planet Tatanna. Luna’s Marines respond to that threat, but what will happen when the Confeds launch an attack on LFS naval forces in the system as well? Lunar warships are forced to engage the enemy in two distant star systems, but the biggest test will come at home, as divisive elements in the nation’s own Lunar Directorate question Luna’s leadership, while its enemies plan for an attack that will cripple the Lunar fleet… without firing a single shot.
Will the Lunar Free State be able to weather the gathering storm?

The Never Ever War
2023
“War” is a dirty word on Ragnarok. For the past hundred years, the planet’s human inhabitants have been trying to rebuild their civilization after a self-inflicted nuclear holocaust. The event—which they call the “Great Destruction”—was so traumatic they’ve destroyed all the records and refuse to talk about it, other than to swear it will never ever happen again. At least, that’s what they tell the Lunar Free State’s contact team. Unfortunately, not all the inhabitants agree on what that peaceful society should look like, and their disagreement has reached the level of an armed conflict between two groups, one of which is supported by a covert ops team from the Confederated Nations of Earth. The locals may not be willing to call it a war… but the LFS ends up in the middle of it, just the same. When a Confed Navy task force arrives to take over the planet, the LFS is forced to respond, taking the war that was never supposed to happen to the interstellar level.

Stand on Xanadu
2023
What do you do when one of your deep space survey ships discovers a fertile, Earth-like planet that isn’t currently occupied by humans or any other intelligent species?
If you’re the Lunar Free State, you make plans to put a colony there—and try to keep it secret so the Confederated Nations of Earth don’t do the same. Unfortunately, though, the secret gets out, and the CNE scrambles to launch their own colony project, starting a race by both nations to make their claim to the planet. But when exobiologist Kim Jin Li discovers that the planet does, in fact, have native intelligent life—a race of feline predators that communicate telepathically—the discovery sets up a confrontation between LFS and CNE warships in orbit, and the LFS Marines and CNE Peacekeepers on the ground. Is this the beginning of the long-expected final war between the Lunar Free State and the Confederated Nations of Earth?

Shadow on the Moon
2025
The financial and economic crisis is over, and the Lunar Free State is beginning to pull out of the recession it suffered competing with the Confederated Nations over the Xanadu colonies. Now, however, the LFS is indebted to the CNE, and the new Lunar government is gradually falling under CNE’s influence. In a few years, the LFS will become just another puppet state under the CNE banner. For the power players of the Invisible Hand, all is going according to plan, yet some of them are impatient. Why wait for the slow decline of the LFS when you can take it all by force? A bold, devastating attack, much like that on Pearl Harbor in 1941, is the answer. But like so many in the past who failed to study history, they don’t stop to consider how Pearl Harbor worked out for the attackers in the long run, and it’s up to a few hard-core patriots in the LFS military to teach them that lesson.
