As a child, I moved around a lot. The places I lived that influenced me most are Iowa and Idaho. When I began studying writing, I wrote poetry and thought of myself as a poet. Sometime in graduate school, I took the lyric, fragmented approach of poetry and began to write prose. I usually write prose these days, generally fiction. I'm currently working on a YA novel, and beginning work on a book of creative nonfiction. I earned an MA in Poetry from Western Washington University and a PhD in Fiction from University of Utah. I live in Salt Lake City with my husband, son, and a German Shorthair Pointer. I teach writing at Salt Lake Community College.
