Inspired by found footage horror, this teen novel follows a submersive police report and diary of a missing teen. Relive Archard's harrowing experience as he and his classmates find themselves lost in the world's largest, most disorientating, and most speculatively haunted woodlands. When teen drama is placed in a deadly, supernatural environment, characters find themselves battling relationships, adapting to the forest, and fighting for survival. For when entering the world of Umbra Woods, odds of escaping seem close to none, and after all, who knows what could be lurking beneath the shadows cast by endless miles and miles of undergrowth. Hi, I'm Toby, a seventeen year old author from London. I wrote Macabre when I was sixteen and have been working on it since. My goal with this novel was to create a horror book which you did not just read, but experienced as well. This is achieved through the novel's found diary layout, including images on the pages which show the book's wear and tear, as if it had been taken along with protagonist Archard through the plot. The story follows Archard's interactions with his friends, Teagan and Xander, and his obstacles, whether they are human bullies, James, Reggie, and Jackson, or supernatural mysteries which hide among the twists and turns of the woods they are lost in. Beginning as a harmless teen drama, the novel gradually finds itself warped and mutated into a dark horror, as characters' focuses turn from being rescued, to individual survival. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed writing it.
