I have similar feelings about the fantasy genre as I do about the United States: it's far from perfect, I don't always like it, but it's where I live. I was raised on The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia, and I completed two degrees in English literature (a BA with a focus on the Medieval period and an MA with a focus in education) before marrying a history teacher and, some time later, deciding to pursue writing. My first book, Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea, released in January 2022.
