The princess Maid Maleen falls in love with a prince, but her father refuses to allow them to marry. When Maid Maleen says she will marry no other, the king locks her and her servants in a tower with enough food for seven years. When, years later, the food runs out, no one arrives to release them. The princess and her maid manage to escape from the tower, but find their own kingdom has been destroyed. They wander to the country of Maleen's prince, but find he has since been betrothed to another princess. Secretly working in the kitchens, Maid Maleen wonders: will the prince recognize his true bride?
