Part of Series

Jacob Henderson is a man of his word and a man who protects his family. While he's slow to anger, once he's at that point, it's hard to bring him back from it. Rage takes over him through situations he thought he caused. However, there is a reason deeper than most of the Hendersons know. Besides his mother and his cousin, Karima, only one person can touch his heart and calm his rage like no other. His physical therapist, Mekayla Chatmon, has the power to make him forget about everything troubling him. Whether he can get her to admit she knows she possesses that power is another thing. Mekayla Chatmon doesn't know what it's like to have loving parents. Being raised primarily by her sister, Keonshay, she bucked the system every chance she got. Her desire for her parents to at least pretend they cared was overwhelmingly strong, even after entering adulthood. However, forming relationships with Keonshay's in-laws proves to be what she needs to pull herself up by the bootstraps and make a life for herself. After moving away and becoming a physical therapist, she finds that when she meets Jacob, her feelings on love aren't typical. She's afraid of it. After over twenty years, she still has issues stemming from her parents' abandonment. Jacob and Mekayla both have deep-seated issues that are hard for them to overcome. Jacob realizes that Mekayla is the woman to help him through his trauma, but Mekayla feels she isn't strong enough to deal with his demons when she's still trying to overcome her own. Will the two of them be able to heal themselves before embarking on a relationship, or will their demons fester and start a war with one another that neither of them are prepared for?

Starting with poetry, writing has always been a constant in Monica's life. The interest began in her teenage years, being in love for the first time. Her love for writing has only progressed. Song lyrics and poetry led to short stories, then one day in her down time, a short story became a 56k word novel. It has been non-stop since then. Being a wife and mother, has only added to the joys of Monica's life. Attaining a BS in Sociology, helping her better understand people and their behaviors, has only helped her become a better writer, understanding characters and their complex personalities. Romance of all types has been her passion, and she plans to continue honing her skills in that genre.
