We’re all multi-faceted individuals and complexity is what makes us so interesting. I’m a daughter, a sister, a friend, an author, a business owner, a gypsy—the list goes on and on. For now, I’ll try to explain Mandy the writer as best I can, in the least words possible but better than someone else ever could. My full name is Mandy J. De Geit. (To make my name easier to search, I dropped the “J” and smashed De Geit together when I realized I’m the only Mandy DeGeit out there.) I was born the day after Christmas in 1977. I’m currently single (unless you count a plant as a roommate) and living in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I’ve been here since 1999, home for me was originally Timmins, Ontario, a small town up eight hours north of here– Yes the one Shania Twain is from and no, I don’t know her. I’m gypsy-like, or nomadic and I love travelling, so who knows where I’ll end up. I’ve been writing since I was a kid. I started with poetry and descriptive paragraphs in grade three or four, most of my writing was my describing the images I saw in my head. I read a lot as a kid. I read anything I could get my hands on. I wrote a lot more when I hit high school and the joys of being a teenager. What I wrote during those times was like keeping a therapeutic journal more than anything else. I think my teenage era would be my writing “Dark Ages”, however those are the times that may have also saved my life. Through my twenties for some reason, my writing just stopped. Maybe I felt that I didn’t need the therapy writing offered, as my life had taken a better turn, maybe I did suffer the writer’s block I told people about, maybe I was just too busy, I’m not sure why I stopped, but I did. One day the need/want to write just came back, so I wrote. Which takes me to now. I call myself an author of creepy fiction as I’m not sure how else to explain what I write. I am not all about the gore (well not yet anyways.) I try to write about things that just might happen. I like to point out the darkness that resides inside people around us, the secrets our friends might carry or the things that people close to us think about and are capable of. I haven’t found a category for that yet so creepy fiction works for me for now. (I am presently trying my hand at an action/comedy with a recurring character, so I’ll have to come up with a different title once that happens. Creepy/Comedy just sounds odd.) In addition to the short stories I currently have published, I have few more short stories coming out later this year. At the moment, I am working on a comedy novella and a horror novel.
