Marco Polo was supposedly born in Venice, then in the Venetian Republic and now in Italy. Stories and various documents also alternatively point to his ancestry originating in Korčula, Croatia. He was a well-known trader and an explorer. He recorded his adventures in a book published as "The Travels of Marco Polo". The original copies of his works are lost.
