Human behaviour, in its bounty and diversity, is Marcy’s inspiration, and her character-driven stories star ordinary women facing some of life's impossible situations. Writing about thorny social issues keeps her informed, open-minded and humble. Marcy’s focus is always Canadian. Marcy grew up as an army brat, the child of parents with itchy feet. Many of her temporary homes in Canada, the UK, and Germany serve as backdrops for her stories, adding authenticity to her settings. Marcy Lane published her debut novel, A Mercy of Widows, in August 2023. With personal insights from losing two life partners to cancer within a decade, she addresses grief with deep understanding. Her exploration of bereavement and healing portrays the silent struggles and intimate triumphs of the bereaved. This connection enriches her novel, providing a candid view of the pain and resilience that define our reactions to love and loss. Marcy's guilty pleasure is art supplies: pens, crayons, paints, inks, papers—she isn't fussy. Her latest exploration into pour painting and alcohol ink reflects her creative and experimental spirit, which also permeates her writing. Home is now a small cottage in southwestern Ontario with her opinionated dogs, Bug and Lucy. As Bug and Lucy learn the command "shh," Marcy is busy crafting her second novel, set on Haida Gwaii, featuring estranged friends who must bridge a cultural divide before they can save intruders into their small world.
