Marion developed an interest in creative writing when she retired from her job as director of a housing association and enrolled in a course with the Open University. She found she loved writing and began with short stories and poetry which she collected in Wherever You Go in 2021 for her husband Charlie’s 70th birthday. She then tried her hand at a novel. The result was One Year which she self-published in 2017. The Scottish Association of Writers awarded One Year second place in their competition for a self-published novel in March 2020. The judge said, ‘The idea of this book grabbed me from the outset, and I found myself staying up late wanting to read just one more chapter – the sign of well-written page turner.’ Her second novel, The Circle, was published in August 2020 and she called it an intriguing psychological novel with a twist. As usual, contemporary issues supplied the backdrop to the story. In One Year, it was the financial crash and the refugee crisis, in The Circle it is coercive control and the #MeToo Movement. Both novels are available on Amazon in paperback and eBook. Her third novel, No Song in a Strange Land, Book 1 in The Uist Girl Series, was published in December 2021 and was the result of researching her family tree. It is a historical novel set in North Uist and Canada during the period from 1910 to 1920 and, as with her other novels, she set it against the backdrop of the contemporary issues that affected society in the early part of the 20th century. Her fourth novel, HIs Bitter Seed, Book 2 in the Uist Girl Series, was published on 5 November 2022. It is a historical suspense novel which continues to follow the lives of Chrissie Macdonald and her family. The next book in the series, Sons and Brothers, will be published on 14th July 2023. This one is set in Glasgow as it follows the lives of Roddy and Donald as they grow into adulthood. All books are available on Amazon in paperback and kindle. Marion was born and educated in Scotland and lives in Glasgow with her husband, Charlie. Her interests include reading, travelling, scrabble, knitting, playing the ukulele and, of course, writing.
