Mark Toby was a novelist, radio and television writer, and a teacher. He was the author of The Courtship of Eddie's Father, on which the motion picture and the comedy television series were based. Mr. Toby was born in New York and graduated from New York University. In World War II he served in the Army Signal Corps. He directed special sales for the Macmillan Company from 1965 to his death and had taught English and social studies at Washington Irving High School from 1959 to 1964. Earlier he did the radio program This Is Toby for radio station WEVD and Mr. Chameleon for WCBS. Mr. Toby died October 26, 1972 of a heart attack at his home, 19 Manchester Road. He was 59 years old.
