
Mark Y. Herring is Dean of Library Services at Winthrop University. Prior to serving in Rock Hill, Herring was Dean of Library Services at Oklahoma Baptist University, and library director at King College in East Tennessee. His doctorate is from East Tennessee State University in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis. He has worked in librarianship for more than two decades. Herring has written numerous articles, books, and scores of reviews for magazines and journals both in and out of the library profession. Herring's most recent book is Social Media and the Good Life: Do They Connect?, release in July 2015. Are Libraries Obsolete: An Argument for Relevance in the Digital Age, was published my McFarland in January 2014. It follows Fool’s Gold: Why the Internet Is No Substitute for a Library was released by McFarland in 2007. Herring is also the author of Genetic Engineering and The Pro Life-Pro Choice Debate, both by the Greenwood Publishing Group, and the author of Raising Funds with Friends Groups: A How-To-Do-It Manual (Neal-Schuman, 2004), His articles have appeared in American Libraries, Library Journal, The Chronicle of Higher Education College and Research Library News, The Weekly Standard, Policy Review, The Women’s Quarterly, Society, and many others. Herring has two married daughters and lives in Rock Hill with his wife, Carol, a high school teacher, and Anastasia, their cat.
