Dr. Mary Barr is the author of “Friends Disappear: The Battle for Racial Equality in Evanston.” Barr received her Ph.D. in Sociology and African American Studies from Yale University in 2008. Research for "Friends Disappear" was supported by fellowships from the American Council of Learned Societies (2010-2012), Black Metropolis Research Consortium (2012), and National Endowment for the Humanities (2013). Her areas of interest include 20th Century African American History (with emphasis on the Civil Rights Movement), educational inequalities, and race and ethnicity. Dr. Barr teaches at Knox College.
