Dean and Mia, Gammas of Blood Moon Pack, are twins with a special connection who've never been apart for more than a few hours. While their ally to the north, Redwood Pack, prepares for an imminent attack, reinforcements are sent in from Blood Moon Pack in small increments. Mia's sent ahead of Dean in the first wave, and they experience their first time ever apart. The two battle codependency in their distance after a world of trauma has taught them to never lean on anyone but each other. The outside conflict is only half the fight, as both are sunk into internalized conflict they've never had to face apart from each other. Dean agonizes over the impending face to face introduction of his mate after keeping their bond a secret for over three years. Mia struggles to face new people without her brother by her side, something further complicated by a badly timed first meeting with a mate she hoped she'd never meet. While Dean tries to conceive ways to soften the blow that he's been hiding from his mate, Mia struggles through the triggers and trust issues of her previous abusive relationship. All the while Redwood Pack tightens their defenses and strives to protect themselves and their Luna not just from a big attack, but from the interspersed small ones that prove to be a more menacing threat than anticipated.
