In 1941 Hanne meets the young girl Miriam who used to live in the room in Hanne's family's new house in Norway. When the Gestapo unleashes its reign of terror on Oslo, Hanne discovers that Miriam is Jewish and sees first-hand what prejudice can do to a person's life.
