Murder in Mushroom Valley is set in central Utah in a place currently known as Goblin Valley. It's a place where Mother Nature must have gone insane because the landscape is filled with bizarre rock formations in the form of hoodoos and gargoyles. It was there that our heroine is attacked by an Apache raiding party and her beloved husband is killed. From there Amanda meets up with Bryan Kohler, a bounty hunter known as Kid Utah because of his skill with a Colt .45. Bryan and Amanda form a bond to seek out and kill the hated Apaches but at first it isn't an easy relationship because they are like vinegar and oil. Regardless they set out on an extraordinary journey of reprisal that takes them down through Utah's beautiful central desert and into the hauntingly beautiful red rock country of southeastern Utah. All of Scotty V. Casper's Westerns are set in Utah.
