Prevania Pillay wakes up one day and realises that her whole life is set out for her and that she is nestled within a protected cocoon whilst chaos rages. It’s the 1980’s in Chatsworth, an Indian township in Durban, South Africa. Apartheid seems to be in its dying days but is putting up a fight. There are uprisings and protests on a daily basis but for many, life goes on.Prevania has much going for a university scholarship; a guaranteed job at the end; and many opportunities that people around her could only hope for. But while her friends and family seem content to focus on the ebb and flow of their own lives, Prevania cannot ignore the social and legal constraints that seek to limit her and those around her. Her self-awakening leads her to join the growing movement against the apartheid system. It is here that she experiences the flawed and beautiful nature of humanity and the absurdity of apartheid laws.Throughout her journey and misadventures is her best friend, her cousin Avesh whom she regards as her best person. But will he stand with her as she tries to take control of life, break convention, and find love?
