As a nonbinary, queer author, having romance stories that celebrate and center members of my community is something that is incredibly important to me. In today's world it felt vital to find a space where a happy ending was only a few page turns away. The Pirate King started off as a drunken fight against the stories we always hear in the media - you are powerless, you will lose what you love, you will not be enough. I made my character overpowered, I gave him his love the very first chapter, and I made him the sea incarnate. And I promised myself that no matter what he went through, he would always end up okay. It has been the most rewarding story I have ever written. I have a tiny garden in my window where I grow vegetables and herbs - it's my little slice of the rural life I moved away from now that I live in Minneapolis. nakamook they/them/theirs (Source: Amazon.com)
