Veterinarian Marjorie ‘Markie’ Russell left her hometown in Idaho to escape the clutches of her mother's new, much younger, husband, a man with a cocky grin and wandering hands. Determined to start fresh, Markie moves to Clifton, Montana and is instantly wary when called to a ranch to check on a horse, where she meets a local cowboy, Nate Jefferson. She senses a familiar arrogance in him that reminds her of her stepfather. Despite her reservations, sparks fly between them in unexpected ways. As their initial clashes give way to an undeniable attraction, Markie begins to see that Nate is more than just a handsome face with a charming smile. But as they start to explore their budding romance, danger lurks around every corner. Markie's stepfather is obsessed with claiming her as his own and will stop at nothing to crush any potential relationship she has. In a race against time, Nate must do all he can to protect Markie from her stepfather’s vengeful schemes. But when Markie's mother finally breaks free from her husband’s control, the man turns his sights toward Markie, unleashing a wave of terror that threatens everything she holds dear. Now it's up to Markie and Nate to stand together against a common enemy and fight to save any chance they have of being together.
